Some of you may notice that we have changed the format of the website slightly, mainly to make it a bit more usable on phones. All the same information is still there, we have just swapped the Menu structure around a bit. Let Duncan know if you can’t find something.
Hope it’s better to use.
CALLING ALL NIGHTHAWKS!
Now that the clocks have changed, the dark evenings are upon us. This makes it hard to stay current during the winter months as days are short and the weather is less dependable.
Why not take the opportunity to experience flying at night? It is an amazing experience and you will learn a great deal in a very short time. You don’t need a full night rating (15 hours) but you can get a valuable insight into Night Flying in just a couple of hours with an instructor.
You will get real value from understanding the difficulties you might encounter when it starts to get dark! During December and January, we can start night flying as early as 16:00 and go on to 20:00, so why not book in with Duncan for a couple of sessions. Duncan has been night flying at Cambridge for 18 years and has overseen 20 + night ratings.
Prices and fees are charged at our normal rates and can be arranged through Operations, please give us a call on 01223 294488.

Former student, instructor and regular on the Alps trip, Al Auchincloss has just published a video of an Air Ambulance Helipad departure from London Hospital. (Click on his picture) Very cool! Here’s something to aspire to and it shows you really can achieve your dreams if you get good training. Al has been a training captain for the Air Ambulance service for about a year and has recently become a TRI.
What can we say but Congratulations to our customer Marfleet Civil Engineering Ltd who have just purchased a beautiful R66 helicopter. Roy and Ian have just completed their R66 type ratings and today Roy flew it into Cambridge so that we could all have a gander at this exciting new type for Aeromega.
We are particularly excited as Marfleet have kindly agreed that G-RMAR can be added to the Aeromega Training Fleet for type rating training and self fly hire. Together with our partners, we hope to be operating this helicopter for activities as Pleasure Flying, Corporate Hospitality Events, public transport for weddings and sporting events:- The Epsom Derby, Royal Ascot, motor racing racing at Silverstone and Goodwood.
We are working hard on getting the various approvals that we need in place and very much hope that within a couple of months, our customers will be able to experience this incredible machine.
We are delighted to have arranged a Robinson European Safety Course with industry guru Richard Mornington-Sanford. The course is scheduled for the 3rd & 4th December 2016, and is very good value at £300 + vat per person. Please call the office on 01223 294488 to reserve a place.
Richard demonstrating which bit goes where!
The course is aimed at PPL (H) holders, owners and students nearing test. It is extremely interesting and we can’t recommend it too highly. All attendees gain better understanding of and greater respect for helicopters. Richard will be imparting the latest safety information available from around the world, so this is your chance to hear it “from the horses mouth”. Check his website www.morningtonsanfordaviation.com for more insight.
To complete the course, you will also have a one hour flight (not included in the above cost) with an approved Safety Course Instructor, when we will look at some of the issues raised. Upon completion, your certificate may make hiring in other countries easier and might even reduce insurance costs.
Some Aeromega customers have already done this course 3 times; a favourite quote is “You always learn something new… and that might save your life!”
Subjects covered include:-
Incident and Accident Reviews & Statistics Root Causes
CRM and Human Factors, Threat & Error Management
Regulatory Updates & EASA FCL developments
Rotary Aerodynamic Phenomena
Engineering & Technical Explanations
The course is open to all pilots, owners and students – not just our existing customers. So we’ll be delighted to welcome anyone hoping to improve their safety awareness.
SAFETY IS NO ACCIDENT
A hearty well done to Dave Lawrence who passed his CPL skills test today with Capt. Geoff Day. Although the visibility looked a bit poor this morning, it brightened up nicely for Dave to pass with flying colours. Dave has been training with Captain Duncan Bickley on the CPL(H) Modular Course which Aeromega have been providing for many years and have an established record of presenting high calibre candidates for test.
An amazing opportunity to purchase this fabulous Robinson R22 helicopter has arisen. It is 13 months old from first overhaul and has only 230 hours used out of its 2,200. It comes fully kitted for a flying school and has bladder tanks fitted.
We would be happy to have it on our training fleet to offset your ownership costs. Please call Duncan on 01223 29 44 88 if you would like further details!
Please see below a link to some excellent material written by Richard Mornington Sandford. Richard runs the Robinson Safety Courses and is a an experienced engineer, pilot and accident investigator. His view on safety are well worth taking on board. Have a look at his article on Lost Skills and the dangers of losing awareness of RPM control following the introduction of the governor.
All pilots would do well to have a thorough read.
